Bark Stop ProMain review

Let’s start with the features that stop dogs from barking. Firstly how does it work?

When dog barking triggers the device an inaudible (to humans) High Pressure Ultrasonic Sound Wave is blasted at the offending dog. This noise is an irritant to the dog, which will eventually learn that it’s barking triggers the sound and it should stop barking to avoid the ultrasonic sound. The manufacturer say this should happen within 2 weeks, however some customer reviews say that their dogs stopped barking immediately.

So to the remote control unit

I was unable to find out what 3 of the buttons do, however all the reviews I found of the unit raved about the training button. Pressing this button gives an immediate ultrasonic blast of sound which can be used to train dogs to stop barking but also as a training device to stop dogs from bad behaviour e.g. jumping up at people or on the furniture.

Update… I’ve researched this remote control and found what the buttons do.

Button 1

Standby. This turns the whole unit on or off. If you go out in the yard for gardening or a party you can turn it off remotely so it’s not being activated all the time. When you have finished you can press the button again to turn it off. This saves having to unplug it or removing the batteries.

Button 2

Ultrasonic button. This puts the ultrasonic blaster on standby. If you want to put your own pet out in the yard this will stop it being targeted and blasted by the bark stop unit. Press again to turn it back on.

Button 3

Strobe button. Pressing this puts the strobe light into standby… Press again to turn the strobe light back on.

Button 4

The big red button muhahaha. Pressing the “power” button sets every thing off for 30 seconds… Depending which mode you are in it will set off an Ultrasonic blast, strobe light or audible sonic alarm. After 30 seconds it resets ready for another blast. Most people find this button the most helpful in all aspects of stopping dogs barking to scaring pests from their yard.

Bark recognition technology

This unit can differentiate between barking and other loud noises which is helpful when you only want to train the dog only when they bark and not when traffic passes by.

Adjustable barking sensor

With the sensor being adjustable you can target just the one closest barking dog and not one in the distance.

Green light barking sensor

Because the sound given off is inaudible to the human ear it is handy to see if the Bark Stop is working, especially if you are adjusting the sensor and want to know if your target dog is in range.

Bark Stop ProUsing the Bark stop as a pest repellent

If you want to scare pests away from your yard or garden then this unit is great. With a larger and therefore louder speaker than the majority of ultrasonic repellers you can keep an area of up to 5000 square ft. pest free.

The unit has an infra-red heat detector built-in which detects moving pests then blasts them with an ultrasonic sound wave which either scares the pest away or irritates it making it move on to quieter areas.

If you know which pest you are wanting to repel the unit has adjustable frequency settings that are known to upset that animal. However there is another setting which will continuously sweep the full range of settings so at some point your pest will be affected. Some reviews I have found suggest this is more effective than a targeted frequency.

It can also be a burglar alarm

When set to alarm, the Bark Stop will use its infra-red heat motion sensor to detect movement and when triggered it will give off a laud audible sound (the volume can be adjusted)

Bark Stop ProCustomer opinion

There are mixed reviews on the effectiveness of the Bark Stop Pro to stop dogs barking. Most people are amazed and very pleased with the results however some people say the unit is useless. I know and believe all dogs are different, some respond very well to the training but others are belligerent or just plain mental and ignore the ultrasonic sound altogether.

Another point that was noted was the back cover was very fiddly to fit and this may have led to the unit not being weather proof… Be careful on replacement of this cover.

Features of the Dual Explained

So much crammed into such a small unobtrusive box! Where to start?

The dog silencer trainer… Stop dogs barking

Yard Sentinel Dual How it works.

When a dog barks in range of the Yard Sentinel Dual (a customer review said it worked up to 50 ft.) it will emit an inaudible high pressure ultrasonic sound wave that dogs find annoying. They bark and the sentinel blasts them, eventually the dog stops barking. Aspectec the manufactures of Yard Sentinel, estimate that training can take up to 2 weeks, however some buyers who have reviewed this product have had immediate results.

Bark recognition technology

Unsure what this is, the manufacturer gave no information. But I guess this is a sensor that can differentiate between loud noises and a dog barking. This will stop the device going off at every loud noise which would cause confusion and make training of a dog useless, another benefit  would be a saving on battery power (if using batteries).

Adjustable barking sensor

You can adjust the sensitivity to detect only close barking, which would make the device trigger only when your dog barks and not the neighbours, or if you are silencing another dog, when the neighbour’s dog barks and not one a few houses away. Again stopping the confusion of which dog you are trying to training.

Green light sensor

Lets you know when the sensor is triggered. Used with the adjustable barking sensor you can tell when the device is triggered and even if it is working.

Other features of the ultra-sonic pest repeller

For an explanation of the other features of this product see my review of the basic but fantastic Yard Sentinel.

Problems with the Yard Dual

This fantastic product is an ultrasonic pest deterrent, dog silencer and an intruder alarm… But it can’t do all 3 at once. You have to choose which one you want it to function as and change it as needs arise.

Yard Sentinel DualVerdict…Should you buy it?

If you have a pest problem or want to train dogs to stop barking then this is a brilliant little pest repellent / trainer and I would not normally hesitate to recommend it to you, but as stated above I have found an even better, cheaper model also made by Aspectec and it’s the Bark Stop Pro. It is the same model as above but it also has a remote control making changing settings and dog training even easier.

If you still want the yard sentinel dual then I recommend you buy it from USA Amazon or Canada Amazon, I have not found a better price elsewhere and their fast delivery makes stopping those pests and dog barking even sooner.

PestBye Battery Operated Cat Repeller | Review |Ultrasonic Cat Repellent

Ultrasonic cat deterrentPestBye Battery Operated Cat Repeller

Lest get your garden free from cats!

Today I am researching the PestBye battery operated cat repeller and I’m going to run through the features, the good points, and the bad, I’ll also include customer’s opinions and point you to the best direction to get the best price.

If you’ve just landed on this website looking to buy  PestBye cat repeller Then click here to go straight to Amazon USA or Amazon UK where you can view the product and best prices.

What is a sonic cat scarer?

PestBye cat repeller is basically a loud-speaker which gives off a very loud ultrasonic noise (which most humans cannot hear) but cats can, they are either scared of the noise or find it uncomfortable to be around.

This PestBye sonic cat repellent is controlled by an infra-red heat detector which turns the speaker on when the heat from the cat comes into range this is around 7 metres from the detector.

How does it scare cats?

The noise emitted from the sonic cat scarer is a very sudden, loud, high pitch noise which is usually enough to scare most cats away. If that doesn’t work then the incessant noise will make the cats uncomfortable, and cats like to be relaxed when they do their business. So they go elsewhere where they can relax while having a poop.

  • Waterproof
  • Works day and night – Keeping your garden cat free 24hrs
  • Battery operated –Owners say batteries last for around 9 months
  • Infra-red (PIR) motion sensor which turns the device on when a warm body enters your garden
  • Different output frequency setting to target specific animals
  • Adjustable Sensitivity settings – Can be targeted

Who is it suitable for?

Just one ultrasonic scarer will cover an 80 degree arc, to a distance of up to 23ft (7m) so if the area you want to keep totally clear of cats is larger than 7 metres, you will need more than one.

Not suitable for pet owners. If you have pets of your own, either cats or dogs, they will be affected also.

Unfortunately it can’t tell pest from pet.

Ultrasonic cat deterrentIs it any good?

The PestBye cat repeller is one of the best on the market with a very high success rate.

No cat repellent is 100% guaranteed but this is far better than using scented sprays and pellets. However used in conjunction with them, buyers who used both sprays and ultrasonic comment that their gardens are now cat free!

Are there better Ultra sonic scarers ?

PestBye is the market leader in ultrasonic cat scarers, but they do come in different formats to suit all.

  • Battery operated – Free from wires but the battery will run out (about 6-9 months)
  • Mains operated – Needs to be permanently plugged into the mains, but it is a set and forget device (this is the one I used).
  • Solar operated – No wires set it working and forget about it. This does not appear to be as good as the battery operated one, as it has no adjustable settings and can’t be targeted at just cats.

Value for money Would I recommend it?

This sonic cat scarer has far better results than scent related products, and is only slightly more expensive. I myself have bought one in the past and it did keep my yard free from cats, so I definitely recommend this for keeping your garden and yard cat free.

Ultrasonic cat repellent

sonic cat repellerUltrasonic cat deterrents are safe cheap solution to stopping cats pooping in your garden and come in various guises:

  • Main power
  • Battery powered
  • Solar/ battery-powered

However they all work in the same way. They have a motion or infra-red heat detector that when triggered emits a high pitch noise inaudible to the human ear (if you can hear it the settings can be changed) that either scares the cat or just makes it uncomfortable to be around. If they don’t detect any motion they turn off after about 20 seconds saving battery life.

Plus it stops dogs barking

How good are they?

Cats are creatures of habit and if there habit is to use your garden as a toilet then it needs to be broken and this takes time. Unfortunately not all cats are the same! Some are old, deaf, belligerent or just well hard and not scared of anything… so this can take anything from 3 days to 3 months to stop their vandalism of your garden.

A sad fact of ultrasonic repellent is that they are not discriminatory… They will also scare / upset your own pets so unless you want a total cat free area they are not suitable for pet owners.

Is there a better way to keep cats out of your garden?

A Sonic cat repeller is a cheap affordable cat deterrent better than gels and sprays but not as good as more expensive water sprayers. If you have tried the gels and sprays and not found them successful an ultrasonic cat repellent is a great addition to your arsenal. Many successful garden owners use both sonic devises and sprays to get a cat free garden or yard.

Extra bonus of sonic cat scarers.

Not only do they keep cats away but they are also supposed to stop:

  • Dogs
  • Foxes
  • Squirrels
  • Rodents
  • Insects (damn big swarms to trigger the device!)
  • Roaches (again how do they set it off?)

I myself owned one of these some years ago to keep cats out of my back yard, which was pebbled and nearly impossible to sort cat poo from pebbles. I positioned it to cover the whole yard and never had any trouble from cats since. Even though I was 35ish I could not hear or tell if the ultrasonic cat scarer was on or not now at 50 there is no way my hearing would pick up the sound of one of these even if it was set wrong. I do recommend a sonic cat repeller.

How to stop cats pooping in garden | Cat Deterrent

How to stop cats pooping in your garden

How to keep cats out of gardenI remember when my flower beds seemed to contain more cat poo than soil and my garden had a smell not usually associated with flowers. For me it was a revolting daily ritual of cleaning up after cats. Unfortunately but lucky for them I never caught them doing their business, so I couldn’t teach them the error of their ways.

Luckily you don’t have to catch the cats to stop them from pooping in your garden. Below are various ways types of cat repellents used to stop cats from visiting your garden. Unfortunately there isn’t one definitive way that will stop all cats. One technique will work extremely well for one cat but not at all for others.

Don’t get disheartened when one doesn’t work, try another. I would suggest you experiment with different cat repellents until you find one that works, or more likely one or more repellents used in conjunction together.

Cat Repellent Using Smell

Cat and dog repellentCat repellent sprays are suitable for owners of their own pets as you can target specific areas that you want to be cat free, or for training your own cat to avoid certain areas.

There are a number of natural and man-made repellents that use smell cats find irritating and therefore avoid.

They come in different forms and are applied in a variety of ways. The main ones being:

  • Sprays
  • Powders
  • Gels / Pellets

More information about using smell to stop cats pooping in your garden

Cat Repellent Water Spray

Not suitable if you own a cat! Repellent water sprays are suitable for targeting gardens, yards, paths, patios etc. or areas where your own pet never goes. You don’t want to scare your own cat!

A well-known fact is that cats hate water… so this is going to work most of the time!

Cat water sprays are triggered by a motion detector, when the cat is detected a powerful spray is automatically triggered and fired at the offending cat. Very easy to use!

I’ve not used them myself but my research shows that these are among the most effective way to stop cats from pooing in your garden.

While I am a cat lover I’m sure I would get a perverse sense of satisfaction knowing that cats trying to poop in the flower beds was getting a soaking.

Plants That Repel Cats

Can be used if you have your own cat.

Plants that repel cats are a natural defense  and can be planted along your garden border or near areas you want cat free.

One for the gardeners a natural and pleasing way to discourage cats from your garden is to use plants and herbs that cats find repugnant and so will avoid the area close to these plants.

Spikes and Chicken Wire

Suitable for any garden and if you have a cat of your own.

Plastic spikes along the top of fences, spike mats and chicken wire; all these can be used to discourage cats from the garden. While they are not designed to harm cats they certainly make them feel uncomfortable while they are walking on them.

Chicken wire can be lade down over areas where cats poo making that patch very difficult to dig up after their business is done. Again cats will move on to easier patches of dirt.

Ultrasonic Cat Deterrent.

Ultrasonic cat deterrentSuitable for any area but not if you have pets of your own that will be made uncomfortable with this sonic deterrent.

I totally recommend an ultrasonic cat repellent as I have used one before and it worked!

These are positioned so the motion detector in them covers your garden and when a cat comes in range an ultrasonic noise inaudible to the human ear is triggered making your garden a very uncomfortable place for a cat to have a relaxing poop.

General tips

Cat repellents work but there are some things you can do that will make them more successful at stopping cats pooping in your garden

  1. Remove cat poop as soon as you find it. Cats are creatures of habit and return to the same spots again and again. If you leave their poo in place it means that the area is safe to use again.
  2. If you can, wash the area with soapy water to get rid of the cat scent and spray with a cat repellent in that area.

While these tips are unlikely to work on their own, they will increase the likelihood of your chosen cat repellent from working.

Here at I have found that Cats are creatures of habit. Your aim is to make your garden an uncomfortable place for a cat to poop in so it moves on to a new area away from your garden. When it  gets into the habit of using the new area it will continue to do so, however all cats are different and this can take from 3 weeks to 3 months.

I hope you find how to stop cats pooping in garden soon.
